It’s so great to be back with another post, following a busy and incredibly joyful couple of months. Since my last blog went up, life has been a whirlwind of wedding photography and family portrait shoots, not to mention that my partner and I recently welcomed our baby daughter into the world. Coffee, coffee and more coffee has been key!
With so much love and happiness already in the air, I was delighted to have the opportunity to work with Bree and Nicholas last month, as they tied the knot in beautiful Ka’anapali.
The wedding group had traveled all the way out here from San Diego and the bride and groom could not have picked a better destination for their wedding. As a venue, the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel is perfect—it is right next to one of Maui’s largest, sandiest beaches, it has lush greenery and plumeria trees throughout its grounds and the hotel (which is known as “Hawaii’s most Hawaiian Hotel”) really does have the authentic, traditional, welcoming feel of Hawaii. It’s a great choice for those who are looking for a destination wedding, especially when the weather starts getting colder on the mainland!
From a photographer’s point of view, it’s a gift to be able to shoot at this location, as it gives me the opportunity to capture the entire day as it unfolds, with a number of stunning backgrounds to choose from.
With Bree and Nicholas, I began by photographing the bridal party as they were getting ready at the hotel, capturing details such as the wedding rings, the bride’s dress, her shoes and bouquet—small touches that are great to look back on and reminisce in years to come.
Then I moved into position outside on the hotel’s lawns to photograph Bree’s walk down the flower-strewn aisle and the happy couple’s ceremony and exchange of vows. Finally, we moved onto the beach itself for Bree and Nicholas’ portrait shots, taken on the sand in Maui’s gorgeous natural light, as the sun went down.
Here are a few of my favorite images of that day. Congratulations you two. Thanks so much for choosing me to be your Maui photographer!
Until next time, Rodrigo
